STATE STREET DEVELOPMENT
BREAKS GROUND IN RACINE
(Big Bend, Wisconsin) - Peter Schwabe, Inc., general contractor,
in partnership with Big Bend Development, LLC, both of Big
Bend, WI, announce a Wednesday, June 4th, 2003 groundbreaking
at the corner of State and Memorial Drive in Racine, Wisconsin.
The development project, called State Street Center, includes
a total of 25,000 square feet and will include a Save A Lot
grocery store, McDonald’s Restaurant, and 7,000 square
feet of available space for other neighborhood businesses.
The event, scheduled for 10:00 AM, is by invitation only.
A group of up to twelve neighborhood citizens will be ‘turning
the dirt’ during the event. The group includes Martha
Ross, also speaking at the event, who has been instrumental
in involving the neighborhood in this development. According
to Bonnie Prochaska, Deputy Director of Sustainable Racine,
“The neighbors got this project happening. It was truly
a grass roots effort where they deserve all the credit and
praise for their perseverance.”
Many years in the making, community organizations stepped
in to realize the actual building of the long-awaited grocery
store as part of the development. Those local organizations
include the City of Racine, Racine County, Sustainable Racine,
City of Racine Department of City Development, the Racine
County Economic Development Corporation and the Racine Development
Corporation.
