Our Founders - - - Peter Schwabe, Inc. had its humble beginnings in 1927 when a young man and his wife took a gamble and opened a small carpentry business out of their home on Milwaukee’s South side. Peter and Pearl Schwabe hoped to bring quality carpentry to the area using the principles of hard work, honesty and integrity. Pete was a humble man, well-liked and hard working, and quickly established himself as the ‘go to’ guy for quality remodels, additions, and carpentry jobs in the area.

The Early Days - - - Much of the work in the early years was done on a handshake. Devoted wife and partner, Pearl, stayed at home to take care of the paperwork essentials and raise their three children. By the time their son Dan was a teen, he was by his father’s side learning the business and carpentry trade. In 1960, Pete turned the business over to Dan and son-in-law Bud, continuing the family tradition.

Here We Grow Again - - - During the 1970’s, Peter Schwabe, Inc. built for a diverse clientele. With a special niche in restaurant construction and a growing relationship with McDonald’s Corporation, Peter Schwabe, Inc. traveled throughout the country spreading our reputation for service and quality. In 1982, as our new corporate offices in Big Bend neared completion, so did our plans for construction diversification and expansion.

Current Times . . . With Dan Schwabe at the helm, our strength is serving varied clients throughout the Midwest. Ground-up construction, additions, and tenant finishes, using the client’s preferred project delivery method, are a strong part of our building repertoire. We have worked significantly in the retail industry. In fact, 50% of our business over the past ten years can be categorized as retail. Our retail experience includes banks, restaurants, strip malls, department stores and salons. Office complexes, industrial, hospitality, church/school, municipal and medical are also a huge sector of our recent project experience.
